Every bbq pulled pork recipe has its own twist. Barbeque means something different for everyone and inspires passionate devotion in die-hard BBQ enthusiasts. Barbeque is an ancient cooking technique that has taken on many variations over the years.

With something very close to religious fervor, chefs have quested after the perfect BBQ recipe. The pulled pork Jamie Oliver makes incorporates a bit of heat from ground chilis with the smokiness of paprika while the pioneer woman pulled pork recipe uses sweet soda to balance the spice in her variation. There are others who would consider it nothing short of blasphemy to use anything other than a smoked pulled pork recipe. We’ll leave the details to the purists. Just get ready to fill your plate!

The best thing about barbeque is that it doesn’t have to be fancy to be fantastic!

What I love most about this recipe:

  • Fix it and forget it in the crockpot
  • The meat is melt in your mouth tender
  • The convenience of using my favorite sauce
  • Makes great sammies or perfect for a BBQ plate

Recipe Notes for Crockpot Pulled Pork:

Food Safety: when dealing with any raw meat, pay attention to proper food handling. Here’s an article from the USDA that’s got all kinds of great info on pork in general and the proper food handling techniques.  Always good to have the facts!

Coleslaw: I always serve my pulled pork sandwiches topped with coleslaw. If you’re a regular reader to our blog, you probably already know which recipe for coleslaw I use! It’s my all-time favorite KFC Copycat Coleslaw Recipe. BTW-it’s been one of my most popular recipes for years so you know other people are enjoying it, too! If you’re pressed for time, grab a quart of coleslaw at your Supermarket deli, no judgment at all <3

Rolls: I like to serve this on some bakery style cheddar cheese rolls. I find them at my Supermarket bakery. If those aren’t available, I like the onion rolls. Any type of roll of bun works!

No slow cooker: No problem! Just use a pulled pork recipe oven method. These Pulled Pork Sandwiches are every bit of as scrumptious as the slow cooker version.

Saucey Suggestions: Ever stood staring at the wall of BBQ sauces in the store and felt overwhelmed? Yeah- me too! There are so many choices- tangy, spicy, sweet, or mustard? Thick or thin? Kansas City, Texas, or Carolina?

The best way to choose is to do your homework! Read online reviews and of course, do your own taste test! That sounds like a great excuse to eat more BBQ!

What’s the Best Cut of Meat to Use For Crockpot Pulled Pork?

One of the most awesome things about a crockpot is the low and slow cook can tenderize even the toughest cut of meat. This means that you can buy less expensive cuts and still get a fabulous end result. The best cut for Pulled Pork Slow Cooker is typically a pork shoulder/butt or a pork loin. Pork loin is usually a bit smaller than the shoulder, so slow cooker pulled pork tenderloin can be a good option for a smaller group.

Can you make Crockpot Pulled Pork ahead of Time?

Absolutely! It will store well in the fridge for a couple of days or freeze it for longer storage. Warm it up in the slow cooker or on top of the stove.

How Do You Freeze Pulled Pork?

Freezing pulled pork is a cinch! After cooking the pork and mixing in the sauce, allow the meat to cool and put it in a freezer bag or container. It will stay good for about 3 months. Consider freezing individual sizes for a quick lunch or dinner- just pop in the microwave and enjoy!
